We all face major changes in life, be it a marriage, the arrival of a new baby or a career change. The same applies to organisations who may undergo a change from the adoption of a new business model to implementation of new technology. When it comes to organisational change, it is imperative to get employees to understand it, support and adopt it and smoothly transition to the new business to ensure the desired outcome is achieved and change management is the tool used to do so.
According to APM, change management can be defined as “the overarching approach taken in an organisation to move from the current to a future desirable state using a coordinated and structured approach in collaboration with stakeholders”. It entails planning, implementing, and the continuous management of an organisational change to minimise workplace disruption as much as possible. This article will demonstrate how Cubility assists clients with managing change making reference to our Change Management Framework.
Planning.
Cubility’s Change Management framework starts the planning phase by understanding the business challenge, identifying the opportunity/ need for change and defining success. It then identifies goals and puts a strategy in place to achieve them by reviewing an organisation’s current state in comparison to its future state and conducting a gap analysis across its people, processes, technology and systems, knowledge and documentation.
The planning phase concludes with implementing a Change Impact Assessment to ascertain the overall effect that the change will have on the organisation as well as how ready an organisation’s employees are for change and what activities need to be included in the scope of the change management project plan.
Implementing.
Once the change management plan has been established, it is followed by the implementation phase during which employees are empowered to work towards achieving the change management goals and involves communication with stakeholders and upskilling employees through training, coaching and resistance management. Cubility’s framework includes a project plan and progress tracking dashboard to ensure the plan is fully implemented in a timely manner.
Continuous management.
Finally, Cubility’s framework concludes by implementing a process to sustain the gains and benefits of the change in the future. This includes implementing new work processes, governance and reporting of change outcomes against the identified objectives and developing actions for continuous improvement.
